Reverend G. Daniel Jones, D.Min.,D.D.

 Pastor Emeritus


Rev. G. Daniel Jones is now Pastor Emeritus after serving the GBCG for 31 years. His previous pastorates were in both the Commonwealth of Virginia and of Massachusetts. Grace Church has grown during his ministry, and has completed a major addition to the physical plant and purchased and improved additional properties for ministry programs and parking purposes. The church has over 40 ministries which serve our local and global communities and congregation. Pastor Jones is a graduate of Virginia Union University, Andover Newton Theological School, and earned his doctorate from Howard University Divinity School. In May 2006, his alma mater, Virginia Union University conferred upon him the Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree. His second honorary doctorate was conferred upon him by Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, PA in May 2011.

On May 4, 1996, Dr. Jones was installed as the Moderator of the oldest Baptist Association in the United States, the Philadelphia Baptist Association (PBA). PBA has 120 churches, representing 13 or 14 languages. He was the National President of the 6,100 member Ministers Council of the American Baptist Churches, U.S.A. and was the founding President of two local Councils, namely ABC of the South, and ABC of Metropolitan Philadelphia (PBA). He served on the Executive Committee of the General Board, American Baptist Churches, U.S.A., serving as the Board’s Chaplain and chairing the Implementation Sub-Committee. In addition, he was a member of the denomination's Boards of National and Educational Ministries, serving on the Publishing Board's Judson Press Sub-Committee, and the Affirmative Action Committee.

Pastor Jones is Vice President of Baptist Ministers and Pastors Conference of Philadelphia and Vicinity and for over 20 years served as Vice Chairman of Philadelphia's Baptist sponsored City-Wide Revival. He is an Executive Board Member of the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention, The Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention having chaired the Centennial Committee of 1997, now chairing the Convention's Scholarship Endowment Campaign. Also, he a member on the Metropolitan Christian Council of Philadelphia, serving as Vice President and is a member of African American Interdenominational Ministries, formerly Black Clergy, Inc., serving as a past Chairman of the Education Committee. Dr. Jones served for seven years as chair of the Urban Theological Institute Advising Committee, and is now named Chair Emeritus.

Dr. Jones' fraternal memberships include: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Mu Omega Chapter (Philadelphia). He is a 33° Mason and serves as Grand Chaplain of the Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania.

Pastor Jones is married to the former Miss Geraldine E. Saunders, who is a recent retiree in middle management of Action Aids of Philadelphia. They are the parents of one adult son, Mr. Bryant D. Jones. Bryant is a graduate of Morehouse College, Atlanta Georgia and earned his MBA from Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
